Harkins Theatres and Emerging Pictures are proud to present exclusive world class cultural programming with the Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series.  This series will take place in seven cities at select Harkins locations from October 2009 through July 2010.  This series offers a wide range of cultural entertainment previously unseen in theatres.  The Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series brings the best in European opera and ballet in addition presented in crystal-clear Hi-Definition digital projection.

The Opera and Ballet in Cinema series will bring landmark works such as director Zeffirelli's production of Verdi's Aida from La Scala di Milano;  the renowned Salzburg Festival featuring Mozart's Così fan Tutte; from Teatro Comunale di Bologna, a stunning performance of Bellini's I Puritani, starring Juan Diego Flórez; from l'Opera de Paris, director Dmitri Tcherniakov's innovative production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin performed by the Bolshoi Opera; and as a special event, the movie La Bohème starring Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón.  In select theaters, two LIVE events will be offered: December 7^th, Bizet's Carmen, the La Scala's opening night and December 22^nd, Verdi's Il Trovatore from the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Also, performances from Russia's legendary Mariinsky Ballet Company (formerly Kirov) will be part of the series with the two classics Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
